The latest opinion poll conducted by the agency Ipsos Strategic Pulse in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Belgrade Human Rights Centre has shown that 65% of Serbia’s citizens are acquainted with the activities of the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office, whereas 56% of them have expressed a positive opinion of its work. >>>

PROSECUTION PRESENTS ITS CLOSING ARGUMENT IN THE TUZLA CONVOY CASE (ILIJA JURIŠIĆ)

 

Presenting its final argument at the trial of Ilija Jurišić in a case known as the Tuzla Convoy, the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office proposed that the War Crimes Chamber find the defendant guilty and sentence him in accordance with the law, given that all basic elements of the criminal offence – recognized by article 148 (use of impermissible means of combat) of the SFRY Criminal Code – had been proved beyond doubt. >>>

PROSECUTION PRESENTS ITS FINAL ARGUMENTS IN THE BYTYQI BROTHERS CASE

 

As the trial of Sreten POPOVIĆ and Miloš STOJANOVIĆ in the Bytyqi Brothers case is drawing to an end, the prosecution presented its final arguments before the War Crimes Chamber presided by Judge Vesko Krstajić, requesting that the two be found guilty and duly punished. According to the Prosecutor’s charges, POPOVIĆ and STOJANOVIĆ acted as co-perpetrators in a war crime against war prisoners Illy, Agron and Mehmet Bytyqi, which took place in Petrovo Selo in 1999. >>>

NENAD MALIĆ INDICTED FOR A WAR CRIME IN STARI MAJDAN

 

The Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor has issued an indictment against Nenad MALIĆ (48) from Bečej, for involvement in a war crime against civilian population that took place in village Stari Majdan (Sanski Most municipality, BH) in 1992. At the time member of the 6th Krajina Brigade – part of the BH Serbian Republic’s Army, MALIĆ allegedly killed two Muslim civilians, and tried to kill a third one, in front of a local café on 21 December 1992. >>>

OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTOR OF THE ICTY WELCOMES LIAISON PROSECUTORS FROM BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, CROATIA AND SERBIA TO THE TRIBUNAL

 

According to the latest information issued by the ICTY Prosecutor’s Office (OTP), Prosecutor Serge Brammertz welcomed colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia who have arrived in The Hague where, for the next six months, they will be working side by side with staff in the Tribunal’s Office of the Prosecutor. The Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office has designated its Secretary General, Mr. Bojan Lapčević, as participant in the OTP training programme. >>>

PROSECUTOR BRINGS CHARGES AGAINST GNJILANE GROUP

 

The Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor has issued an indictment against 17 individuals – members of the so-called ‘Gnjilane Group’, which operated as part of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) – for a war crime against civilian population committed in the area of Gnjilane in the period between June and September 1999. As a result of the said criminal event, at least 52 Serbs, Roma and Albanians were brutally killed, whereas a great number of women fell victim to rapes. >>>

FOR OVČARA WAR CRIME, SIRETA RECEIVES MAXIMUM SENTENCE

 

The Belgrade District Court’s War Crimes Chamber presided by Judge Vesko Krstajić has sentenced Damir SIRETA to 20 years in prison – which is a statutory maximum – for involvement in a war crime against 200 (193 identified) war prisoners of Croat nationality, which took place at the Ovčara farm near Vukovar in 1991. >>>

VERDICTS PASSED IN THE PODUJEVO WAR CRIME CASE

 

The Belgrade District Court’s War Crimes Chamber presided by Judge Snežana Nikolić-Garotić has pronounced 20-year sentences to Željko ĐUKIĆ, Dragan MEDIĆ and Dragan BOROJEVIĆ, and a 15-year sentence to Miodrag ŠOLAJA, for a war crime against 19 Albanian civilians – women and children of the Bogojevci and Duriqi families, which took place in Podujevo on 28 March 1999. >>>

Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukčević received Mr. Jovan Elezar, President of the Jewish Municipality, and Mr. Avram Izrael, President of the Supervising Committee, in an official visit earlier today. During the meeting, Prosecutor Vukčević informed the Jewish officials that Serbia was going to request the extradition of Peter Egner from the United States. Egner (87) is suspected of involvement in acts of genocide and war crimes against civilians – mostly Jews – which took place in Belgrade during World War II. >>>

AS THE SUVA REKA TRIAL APPROACHES END, PROSECUTION PRESENTS CLOSING ARGUMENTS

 

Nobody stopped the criminals going on rampage against their neighbours of different language and religion.

Giving his closing arguments in the Suva Reka case, the War Crimes Prosecutor requested that seven defendants – members of formations that included the Special Police Units (PJP), local active and reserve police forces of Suva Reka, State Security Services and Territorial Defence – be pronounced guilty of the crime against 48 Albanian civilians committed in Suva Reka (Kosovo and Metohija) on 26 March 1999. >>>

In the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s final argument at a repeated trial of eighten individuals charged with involvement in a war crime committed at the Ekonomija farm outside Vukovar, the Court was urged to pronounce the indictees guilty and sentence them in accordance with the law, taking into consideration the level of each indictee’s individual responsibility. >>>
